The funny part is—they haven't.
Every landscape Gabe creates is completely imagined. Rather than painting from photographs, he begins with an idea, a feeling, or a memory of the North and lets each painting evolve naturally on the canvas. The result is artwork that feels both familiar and entirely unique, inviting viewers to discover a place that exists only in their own imagination.
A LIFELONG ARTIST
Gabe Carlstrom has been painting since the age of sixteen and is entirely self-taught. Working in both acrylic and oil, he is continually exploring new ways to capture light, atmosphere, and emotion across northern landscapes.

Perhaps most surprising is that Gabe is color blind. Rather than limiting his creativity, it has become part of what makes his work so distinctive. His bold use of color, dramatic skies, vibrant Northern Lights, and expressive landscapes have become a signature style recognized by collectors throughout the region.
CRAFTED BY HAND
Many of Gabe's original paintings are finished with handcrafted frames built in his own workshop. He often incorporates reclaimed wood along with natural elements such as driftwood, tree roots, lake stones, and epoxy, creating artwork that extends beyond the canvas itself.
